PADI Divemaster - What Comes Next?

With two divemasters just having qualified here at Circle Divers Sharm (congratulations Mohammed and Ziad !), it’s the ideal time to look at what a Divemaster Certification means.

If you have ever dreamed of getting paid to share your love of scuba diving with others, a divemaster certification is the minimum you will need to get a job in the dive industry.

A PADI Divemaster certification opens doors worldwide with over 6,600 PADI Dive Centres, Resorts and Liveaboards in 186 countries. Jobs are posted daily to PADI’s Job board.

What Can Divemasters Do?

Even though it may sound like you’re the boss, a “Master”, a divemaster is actually the first step on the rung of the PADI Professional ladder.

Divemasters will typically assist instructors with classes and guide or lead certified divers on underwater adventures. If they are working at a dive center or shop, a divemaster may often help with the filling of tanks, loading gear, checking in divers and other essential tasks.

Think of it as an apprenticeship to a PADI Instructor – but a lot more fun than a traditional apprenticeship.

In addition, divemasters can also :

  • ·       Accompany certified PADI Scuba divers and Open Water Divers on dives
  • ·       Assist PADI Instructors with Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) programmes
  • ·       Help divers refresh their skills with a PADI ReActivate program
  • ·       Teach Discover Snorkeling and PADI Advanced Snorkeler

Additional training also allows  PADI Divemasters to conduct a DSD in a pool or confined water.

What Courses Can a PADI Divemaster Teach?

With additional training, a divemaster can also be qualified to teach

For those divemasters with a passion for teaching but are not quite sure if they want to pursue the full Instructor Development Course (or need to save up for it) a PADI Course Director can certify you to teach any of the following PADI specialty courses:
