Day Trip to Abu Galum - Snorkelling

Dahab
If you have never been in the Red Sea, it is time to discover this unique underwater paradise using mask, snorkel and fins. Guided in very small groups our Divemasters or snorkelling guides will take you through an unforgettable experience and show you the marine life of the Red Sea, which is incomparable to anything you have ever seen before.
8 Km north of the Blue Hole and not easily accessible by road this dive site previously was only visited if you travelled by camel now the Bedouins have mostly moved on from the ships of the desert and have bought their own small speedboats.
The trip starts with a drive from the dive centre to the Blue Hole, once at the Blue Hole you can snorkel the famous site before meeting the boat that will sail for about 20 mins to Abu Galum, this reserve stretches across 400 sq km of land and sea and was declared a protected area in 1992.
The site has a beautiful hard coral plateau in the shallows with pristine corals throughout the area perfect for snorkelling, the unique rock formations and large pinnacles act as cleaning stations bringing in turtles, barracuda and often eagle rays. There is a huge a variety of marine life which can be explored here. The northern part of the site is famous for its coral gardens.
Have lunch prepared by Bedouins before heading off to the crystal clear waters of the Blue Lagoon, snorkelling is not allowed here but swimming is.
If one day is not enough for you here then consider spending the night, Ras Abu Galum and camping in one of the huts provided by the Bedouins (see camping in Abu Galum)
Abu Galum is defiantly a hidden jewel and not to be missed
