Welcome to Canyon, one of the most renowned and captivating dive sites in Dahab.
Nestled just 2.6 kilometres south of the Blue Hole and adjacent to it, the Canyon dive site offers a mesmerizing underwater adventure that will leave you in awe.
Let's dive into the enchanting details of this remarkable dive site and explore the wonders that await beneath the surface.
A Journey Into the Depths
As you descend into the water, you'll find yourself immersed in a tranquil shallow lagoon, gradually opening up to the sea through a crack in the reef on the right.
The reef wall, rising approximately 12 metres high, showcases a stunning coral garden along its edge. The gently sloping reef boasts magnificent table corals and scattered pinnacles, creating a picturesque underwater landscape.
Follow the reef wall to your left, keeping your depth shallow to maximize your dive time and adhere to decompression limits.
Encountering the Marvels of The Canyon
As you approach Canyon, you'll witness the captivating sight of the "fish bowl." This area is teeming with glassfish, creating a spectacle of shimmering movement.
Please note that entry and exit from the fish bowl are prohibited due to their unstable nature.
However, on your return journey from Canyon, take a moment to swim around the fish bowl and revel in its vibrant marine life.
It's not uncommon to spot a red sea walkman gracefully camouflaged in the sandy surroundings.
Unraveling the Geological Wonder
The geological marvel of Canyon was formed by tectonic shifts in the Gulf of Aqaba, resulting in fault lines on the seabed.
The Canyon features three main openings: the forbidden fish bowl at 14 metres, a large opening at approximately 22 metres, and the exit at a depth of 52-54 metres, leading to the vast blue water beyond.
The walls of the crack between each opening create a tunnel-like passage adorned with flourishing coral growth.
A Dive Into the Canyon's Depths
For an exhilarating dive experience, enter the 22-metre bowl and descend into the depths of the canyon until you reach 30 metres.
Take a moment to marvel at the interplay of light filtering through the cracks, illuminating the canyon floor, and creating a breathtaking spectacle.
As you ascend through the canyon, savour the unique ambience and intricate formations surrounding you.
Please note that exiting the canyon is not possible from the vertical wall, so it's best to turn back towards the entry point and leave through the 22-metre bowl.
