Umm El Sid
The Arabic tradition of naming parents after their firstborn child resulted in "Umm Sid," which translates to "Mother of Sid." As you journey up the hill from Old Market to Hadaba, you'll encounter a statue commemorating her compassionate spirit.
Exploring Ras Um Sid Dive Site
Ras Um Sid Dive Site offers more than just a dive; it's a delightful coastal experience. When embarking on a shore dive here, you'll be delighted to find restaurants perched on the cliffs.
They provide the perfect opportunity to relish a delicious lunch or unwind with coffee between your dives.
Underwater Wonders
Your underwater adventure at Ras Um Sid begins with a dramatic vertical wall that plunges to 30 meters.
As you navigate this enchanting realm, you'll have choices to make. If you turn right, the dive site's wall gradually slopes upward, revealing a captivating display of hard corals and vibrant porite coral in the shallower depths.
Opt to turn left, and the wall descends into deeper waters, leading you to a mesmerising forest of fan corals. Should the current be in your favour, the dive path will unveil a plateau adorned with an array of soft corals and an assembly of pinnacles.
Keep a watchful eye out; you might be graced by the elegant presence of eagle rays gliding gracefully in the azure depths. For the fortunate divers during the summer, Mantas and Whale Sharks might grace the reef with their majestic presence.
Boat Dive Adventures
While Ras Um Sid is a fantastic shore dive, many adventurers explore it from the boat as a drift dive.
This allows you to bask in the beauty of the underwater plateau. Towards the end of your dive, the coral landscape transforms once more, featuring porite corals and groups of goatfish gracefully navigating the shallows.
