Day trip to the Ras Mohammed National Park by land
Sharm El Sheikh
Just 12 Km from the city of Sharm El Sheikh you will find the Ras Mohammed National Park. The protected area of Ras Mohammed is open for diving and also camping, its one of the most pristine places you can imagine. As you enter the park the road follows the coast line with sand dunes on either side, as you drive past the bay of Marsa Bareika you will see the crystal clear waters with its aqua greens and deep blue colours. Stop for a photo opportunity at the Ras Mohamed Stones otherwise known as the Gate of Allah, which was created by an engineer after the war with Israel in 1973. The stones are set in a formation that reads Allah in the Arabic language. On the way to the first dive site you will pass by the magic lake - called this as locals believe it changes colour at least 7 times a day. At Shark Observatory climb the cliff face to the viewing platform and see the full splendor of the park, look at the cliff wall as you climb and notice all the fossils embedded in it. After the first dive we will take you to see the mangroves - these are the most northerly mangroves in the world and essential to the ecosystem, look into the earthquake crack and see if you can see the blind salt shrimps that have made this fresh water their home. On the way back towards the park entrance we will stop at a Bedouin camp in Marsa Bareika for the second dive. After the dive enjoy lunch at the camp made on the BBQ grill and take in the smell of the food cooking and the clean sea air.
